The French veteran had already come up with a remake of the first part a few years ago, and we had to wait a while to continue.
Microids are behind the project (which is not surprising because in many cases Francophone IPs are associated with it these days), and Cuisset very likely did so long ago: in 1989, at Delphine Software International (DSI), story and programming were Future Wars is the first original game to follow, followed by Flashback three years later. This cinematic gaming platform was brought together by DSI and designed by Cuisset. It later ported in many games of varying quality (Shaq Fu, Time Commando, Moto Racer Series, Darkstone, Mister Slime, Amy, Subject 13…), but is now back in Flashback.
The new version of the first part was compiled by Cuisset’s own studio, VectorCell, in the 2013 version of Ubisoft for X360 and then on PS3 and PC, but now another French company is taking care of IP. After Conrad defeated Master Brin in the previous episode, his team’s problems with Murphys resurfaced. In addition to creatures that are dangerous to civilizations, Ian is also a problem after his best friend is kidnapped in front of Conrad, and it is questionable here who might be behind the theft.
Flashback 2 has been brought together by the Cuisset team and Microids studio in Lyon, and we get a new story in it. Movement, puzzle elements, and secret snooping all play a role in this as well. There will also be familiar locations (New Washington, Jungle), but you can also expect new locations (New Tokyo, or a mysterious space station). Cuisset tried to pay tribute to the first part by bringing back a lot of the people working on the first (Terry Perry, the game designer, or Rafael Jesqua, the author of the soundtrack for the Amiga version).
Flashback was praised for its innovative animation in the ’90s, and the team wants to keep that tradition going, so Jamal Blissat was hired to digitize the Conrad B Hart movement… and being a world-renowned entrepreneur, isn’t a bad choice. Flashback 2 is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC sometime this winter (steam), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The Switch will receive the game in 2023.
