Is your VPN not working? Microsoft is the bad guy – PCW

They've caused huge chaos in Redmond, where the latest Windows update has killed VPN services.

Basically, it is a welcome thing that Microsoft frequently distributes security updates and various functions for supported operating systems. At the same time, Redmond residents are famous for the fact that packages sometimes cause more harm than good. Just think about the update that some have been waiting for months that prevents the installation of More updates.

We can only hope that in the case of the latest bug in Redmond, a fix will arrive faster than that, because the current update has made virtual private networks, i.e. VPN services, that provide anonymity and access to region-locked content unusable for many.

This is what Microsoft itself admitted On the support page, as the April 2024 security update (KB5036893) was found to be the culprit, after installing Windows devices that may experience connection issues when using VPNs. The post doesn't say how many users are causing problems, but the bug can occur on both Windows 11 and Windows 10, and in both cases it goes back to the 21H2 major release, with Windows Server 2022, 2019, 2016, 2012, and 2008 also affected.

So Windows VPN users may have fallen victim to Redmonds' latest scam. There is no promised target date for the fix, the developers only state that they are already working on the solution and the next patch will provide a fix for the issue. In the meantime, those affected have no other choice but to remove the April package that caused the problem, so the security patches brought by the April update will also be deleted.
