A new section made using rubber bitumen was delivered on the M83 motorway, the raw materials for which came from the MOL plant in Zalaegerszeg, MOL reports. About 10,000 tons of rubber bitumen were used in the base and bond layer of the road structure, so the longest rubber bitumen road in Hungary with a length of 36 kilometers was built. MOL’s Zalay refinery started producing rubber bitumen in 2012, with a production capacity of 5,000 tons per year. In response to growing demand, MOL also built a new plant capable of producing 20,000 tons of rubber bitumen per year, also at the Xalai refinery, which was completed in 2020. Since the start of production, the company has produced rubber bitumen out of a total of 4,500 tons of ground rubber. , which was made from the waste of about 750,000 used passenger car tires, and was used in the construction of 180 kilometers of road sections so far.
