Index – Science Technology – The fastest man-made device broke its own record

It has come closer to the Sun than anything we have ever made, and will set new records for years to come.

NASA’s Parker Solar Research Station announced that it has broken its previous record at a speed of 692,000 kilometers per hour, and has become the fastest device ever made by man. US government space agency.

The Parker Probe, launched in 2018, examines the Sun by describing circles that are constantly narrowing and accelerating. Thanks to its measurements, we can learn more about solar flares, which are of great importance in terms of identifying geomagnetic storms that cause electrical disturbances on Earth.

During its 17th orbit around the Sun, Parker set a new speed record on September 27, and in the process approached the glowing ocean of plasma, which can be considered the surface, to a new record of 7.26 million kilometers.

According to plans, the device will make 24 orbits around our star by 2025, reaching a distance of 6 million kilometers from it under the protection of its 11.5 cm thick carbon composite heat shield, while setting new speed records.

The speed involved is unfortunately negligible on a cosmic scale. To reach one percent of the speed of light, you would have to travel at 11 million kilometers per hour. Parker, who drives a scooter at speeds amazing by our everyday concepts, is moving at about 0.05 percent of the speed of light.
