The World Kettlebell Championship will be held in Vasarhely

33 countries, including Brazil, Canada and South Korea, will host the WKSF Kettlebell World Sports Championships in Hódmezővásárhely between June 22-25. The fact that 400 athletes were registered for a total of 500 entries exceeded even the organizers’ dreams. Vasarheli represents nine athletes.

The kettlebell’s homeland is Russia, where it was still used as a measure of agricultural yields in the eighteenth century, and a hundred years later it was also used for physical training. The first regulations for competitions with ball weights were drawn up in 1962. Kettlebell, originally known as girja, has conquered the whole world in the past decade.

It’s different from lifting weights

Peter Kreuzlicks, General Secretary of the Kettlebell Sports Association, and President of the Girja Power Sports Association in Hódmezővásárhely, was a competitor and member of the jury in the competition that took place in the gymnasium in Hódtó. As he told our newspaper during a break during Friday’s competition: Athletes are particularly active in Vásárhely, kettlebell communities are constantly expanding in the two sports federations that are active in Vásárhely. Most importantly, kettlebell sport cannot be compared to weightlifting. The physiological effect of movement with dynamically elevated ball weights also varies.

Lots of little moves

Countless rules and small moves that have to be taken into account when judging. But the most important thing is the hold, the point where the rider stops the bell above his head with a straight arm outstretched. Toth Rowland, a member of the Jirga Power Sport Association, who has also been in business for a year, emphasized that continuous learning and development are inherent in the sport. When the ball passes over an athlete’s head from below, countless little things matter, such as raising the heel, turning the forearm outward or inward. Rolland Tóth was looking for the most motivating event, so he chose the biathlon, which was really honest to him. He also said: When lifting a 48-kilogram ball, he can only rely on himself, his victory is the only one, and he cannot blame his opponents for failure. He once started doing sports with a weight of 108 kg, and his former coach, Zoltan Bartyk, showed that the body can be kept in very good shape with this kettlebell. This is his first professional competition, he wants to know how he stands and where he ranks among the athletes.

The 15-year-old girl is from Vasareheli

Zoltán Bartyik, vice president of Innovatív SE in Hódmezővásárhely, board member of the Kettlebell Sports Association, got acquainted with the sport in 2012, obtained a coach qualification in 2016 and conducted his first training a few months later. They started with a handful, started with 8-10 athletes, and now their association has grown. As the coach said: He who has tried the bell once becomes observant. As well as one of the youngest competitors in the organization, just 15-year-old Kitty Konyvis. In his six or seven competitions so far, he has taken home, without exception, the first prize. In his first world competition, as a junior, he competes in the 12 kg half-hour event.
