NMDC receives lending award from the U.S. Small Business Administration

Caribou, Maine — The Northern Maine Development Commission is proud to announce that it has been named a 2023 Maine Leading Microlender by the U.S. Small Business Administration. This prestigious award recognizes NMDC's outstanding performance and commitment to providing microloans and technical assistance to small businesses in northern and eastern Maine.

The award was presented to NMDC employees by SBA Area Administrator Diane Sturgeon and special guest Mark Madrid, Associate Administrator of the Office of Entrepreneurship Development, SBA, at a ceremony held on Friday, January 26 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport.

“NMDC is honored to receive this recognition from the SBA,” said Robert Clark, Executive Director of NMDC. “We are grateful for the partnership and support the SBA provides to our microloan program. We are also proud of our employees who work hard to provide quality services and products to our customers. Most importantly, we are thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of our microloan borrowers, who are the backbone of our local economy.”

NMDC is a non-profit organization that serves as the regional planning and economic development agency for Aroostook and Washington counties. NMDC operates the SBA Microloan Program in its service area, providing loans of up to $50,000 to start-up and existing small businesses.
