The annual European Railway Station Index analyzed the fifty largest railway stations in Europe, taking into account waiting times, delays, communication options, ticket prices, ticket office opening hours and availability of information, as well as services within the station – such as waiting rooms and shops. and restaurants – accessibility, smartphone apps, free Wi-Fi, and the availability of ride-sharing services like Bolt and Uber.

After winning the 2022 race, the Swiss hotel Zurich Hauptbahnhof remains in first place in terms of passenger comfort, finishing with a score of one hundred and two points.

Frankfurt Station, Naples Centrale in Italy, Amsterdam Centrale in the Netherlands, Gare de Lyon in Paris, and Oslo Central and Medeling Station in Vienna are also among the top ten.

What’s the worst?

Among the busiest train stations in Europe, Germany’s Bremen Hauptbahnhof station received the lowest score in terms of customer comfort, collecting only 39 points.

The average waiting time is eleven minutes, and 43% of trains are late. Contributing to the low score were frequent travel options and the lack of free Wi-Fi, in addition to only nine stores and fifteen dining options.

Munich Busing Station is in penultimate place – this also shows that Germany is not doing so well: Berlin Zoologischer Garten, Berlin Gesundbrunnen and Berlin Ostkreuz are also in the bottom five, although the capital’s main station is in the top five. At the end of the list were Essen-Hauptbahnhof in Germany, Birmingham New Street in the United Kingdom, Chatelet les Halles and Haussmann Saint-Lazare in France, Helsinki Central in Finland, and Firenze Santa Maria Novella in Italy.
