A natural gas field was discovered 40 kilometers from the Hungarian border, which may be able to meet 7 percent of Croatians’ gas demand.

The Croatians have found a huge natural gas field near the Hungarian border, A. reports VG. This discovery could have a serious impact on Croatian energy security, but Mol Nyrt could also benefit from it through its Croatian subsidiary. The natural gas field was discovered 40 kilometers from the Hungarian border near Gropesno Polje, and specialists succeeded in drilling a well capable of producing 140,000 cubic meters of natural gas per day.

This is very good news for Croatians, as this well alone can meet 7 percent of the country’s natural gas demand, the portal reported. Another well is scheduled to be drilled in a gas field in Slavonia that may contain 150 million cubic meters of gas. Together, the two wells cover approximately 15 percent of Croatia’s gas needs.

The extraction will be carried out by Mol’s Croatian subsidiary, INA, which is partly owned by the Croatian state, so the Hungarian company can also benefit greatly from this discovery.
