Szeged.hu route: The largest EU support cycle development has been completed

– Among the EU projects of the municipality of Szeged, this road construction was the largest in recent years. The investment of 4 billion HUF links the northwestern residential area of ​​Szeged with the industrial area. Sandor said that this is the last stage of the development of the economical road that has been implemented in the Northwest Industrial Region in recent years, and which enables residents of Szeged to reach their places of work in a faster, safer and more sustainable way. Nagy, Vice-Mayor for Urban Development, who handed over the new road, after Sandor Toth, General Manager of Colas Út Építőipari Zrt, announced the completion of work worth four billion two hundred million dollars.

Thanks to the investment, a 3.9-kilometer road has been built, and conditions for the movement of cars, the public, pedestrians and bicycles have improved in the northwest part of Szeged, thus promoting the development of the local economy and job growth.

The investment guarantees safer and faster access to the industrial parks along Route 5, the logistics center, the ELI-ALPS laser research center, the science park and business incubator planned next to it, and the shopping centers Béketelep, Újrókus, Makkosház, Fodorkert, Felsőváros, Petőfitelep, for the residents of Täby.

  • In the project, the existing road was renewed and widened by 2.8 km, and a new road with a length of 1.1 km was constructed.
  • The newly built bicycle facilities are 4.4 kilometers long.
  • A new cycle path, separate pedestrian and cycle path, cycle lane and sidewalk have been constructed from the ELI Laser Center at the intersection of Vinkler László út and Béketelep in Vértói út.
  • A separate pedestrian and bicycle path that connects to the existing bicycle path on the west side of Route 5 has been constructed, and the missing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure has also been built along the Zsámbokréti Row and Vértói út on the railway line.
  • In the project, a road was constructed to reach the ELI laser center, and the existing road parts were renovated.
  • Between Zápor út and Régi posta út, parallel to Hosszú útca, a new collection road has also been completed, which is a continuation of Zápor út.
  • On the new Záporút road, the overhead electrical cable network has been moved underground.
  • The old post road between Vinkler László út and Nagyszombati utca with the same width has been renovated to make it suitable for public transport.
  • The Vinkler László út sidewalk, which runs through the residential park, has been widened from 6 to 9 metres, a sidewalk has been built on both sides for the full length of pedestrians, and dedicated cycle lanes have been created.

In the coming months, once the weather is right, thousands of square meters of lawn will be planted, and 160 trees and 1,100 shrubs will be planted.

In the project, ten new bus stations have been completed and three existing ones have been refurbished, so it will be possible to start new bus lines in the future, and bicycle supports have been installed at bus stops.

Three new roundabouts were also built: at Zápor út after the big left turn leading to the Auchan gas station, at the intersection of Régi posta út and Vinkler László út, and at the intersection of Zsámbokréti row with Vinkler László út.

In addition to the road construction and renovation works, a 6.7-kilometre rainwater drainage has also been built, and two rainwater tanks have been constructed, whereby rainwater can flow into canals in remote areas on a scheduled basis.

Standardized, modern and energy-saving LED public lighting has been installed in the area, and work has been completed to replace and protect necessary facilities.

The investment contractor was the Colas Út Építőipari Zrt consortium. The Délút Építő és Bányászati ​​Kft., the works started in March last year and were completed in almost a year and a half, on time.

By renovating the roads for economic development, the municipality wants to encourage further development of the industrial, commercial and service enterprises already operating there, and to make the area more attractive for the establishment of new companies.

The modernization of the Kollégiumi út for HUF 832 million served the same purpose, as well as the Internal Economic Roads Project, where new roads and traffic light junctions were built with HUF 230 million from the European Union and HUF 61 million from municipal funds.
