The most common place to store leftover paint is in a garage or garden shed, although its consistency can deteriorate a lot in these places.

Keep the wall paint here if you don’t want it to spoil

After one painting, there is often paint left over, which is worth saving for another job, for possible minor repairs. But in order to be able to use it next time, it is important to store it in the right place. A garage or garden shed is not the best solution for this, as these places are subject to weather changes or very cold or very hot temperatures. The humid air common in Sovni is not good for mineral paints stored here long term.

A garage is also not an ideal option, especially in winter, as the paint can deteriorate or even freeze in an unheated room. We have also previously collected what is not recommended for storing in the garage during the winter. The ideal storage temperature for paints is between 10 and 25 degrees. Therefore, store the remaining paint in a dry, dark place with a constant temperature inside the apartment, away from radiators and direct sunlight. A dark storage room or wall cabinet may be the perfect solution.

This is how to store opened paint

Cover half of an open paint can with aluminum foil before putting on the lid to make the can doubly airtight. On the other hand, if there is less than half the amount of paint left, pour it from the box into a sealable container or mason jar. In either case, label the containers, write down the type of paint they contain and the date they were opened.

However, if the paint has a strong odor after opening, do not use it anymore, as bacterial growth can cause the unpleasant odor. But you do not necessarily have to get rid of the paint if you experience what is called peeling on it. In this case, just shake it well by hand or using a special shaker, and it will be usable again.
