More and more students with particularly low scores are being accepted into teacher training programs in Hungary – Transformation Center for Economic and Regional Sciences Research General Education Indicators System 2023 From the size of his study. The study contains a series of graphs and reports on the current state of Hungarian education, with data from 2010 to 2022.

According to annual data, the average grades of students accepted into teacher training in 2010 were almost the same as the average grades of those accepted into other specializations. In 2011 and 2012, the number of admissions to teacher training was better, and this number gradually decreased later. So much so that those accepted into teacher training in 2022 scored 9 percent lower on average than those accepted into other specializations.

It is even more interesting if we look at how students accepted into teacher training are divided according to their results among students accepted into other university courses. Here, the researchers divided participants according to their scores into the bottom quartile, the middle half, and the top quartile. This can be seen in the following figure:

The figure shows that at the beginning of the first decade of the twenty-first century, more than half of those accepted into teacher training belonged to the middle category of university admissions according to their grades. However, over the years, the proportion of those in the bottom quarter of those accepted has gradually increased.

In every year except one since 2018, more than 40 percent of those accepted into the teacher education program have been among the lowest-performing applicants. Both schedules address full-time admission to basic and undivided education.
