The president’s son is his teammate and is remarkably nice to him, but according to Fernando Alonso, there is nothing mysterious or unusual about him.
So far, Fernando Alonso has had a huge advantage over Lance Stroll at Aston Martin. The Canadian could only beat his teammate in a one-off time trial and race, and that aside, Alonso’s domestic supremacy was big and clear throughout the year.
Despite this, the two-time world champion Spaniard portrays his teammate in a very different light than their results against each other. He has described him as a potential world champion, future leader, while on many a racing weekend we would hear and see him trying to help him out wherever possible, even during the races.
the BBC Alonso asked how much his relationship with Lance Stroll had been affected by the fact that the Aston Martin was owned by his team-mate’s father, Lawrence Stroll, and how sincere that relationship was or what he thought of Lance – contrary to statistics.
“It’s very simple. Right now our team is in a period that still needs to improve in many areas. Our car is fast, but as a team we still need to improve in many areas. Under development from a factory point of view. There’s a new facility at Silverstone, which is something Amazing, but we’ve only been working there for two months.
“I am the most experienced driver at Aston Martin, and I know my role. I try to help the team improve in those areas. I try to help Lance too, in anything that can help the team, because he will be racing for many more years, while I don’t know how long it will be. He has to lead the team in the future.”
Alonso stated, in effect repeating his previous statements.
He added that if the stakes were higher, the relationship between the two would definitely change a bit, but it wouldn’t stop there for the time being. “I’m happy to help. I don’t know… I don’t think there’s anything mysterious about it. We have a good relationship at the moment. We’re not fighting for the championship. If we were fighting for the league title, there would have been less dialogue or more tension between The two teams, but now our goals are very clear and we’re both going in that direction.” Alonso explained.
