BMW has arranged it: larger planes fly between Debrecen and Munich

The BMW Group has signed a joint contract with Lufthansa Airlines in connection with the car plant in Debrecen, under which the larger capacity aircraft will operate between Debrecen and Munich on Mondays and Fridays – this was announced at a press conference on Friday after the first aircraft arrived at the Hajdu Bihar district headquarters.

These days, the airline's largest aircraft, the 215-seat Airbus A321neo, which serves short- and medium-haul flights, will operate on this route, announced Johannes Walter, Vice President of the Lufthansa Group, who himself arrived in Debrecen on a flight. First flight on Friday afternoon.

He expressed his happiness that their flights will transport hundreds of BMW engineers and innovators between the two cities, as a long-term agreement has been concluded for this.

With the new flight, the Debrecen-Munich route can be completed in one and a half hours, via Budapest, and this time it will be 3-3.5 hours, he said, adding: Lufthansa's goal is to stimulate people, cultures and the economy in a sustainable way.

He expressed his hope that tourists would also use their services in large numbers, as Munich's five-star airport is accessible with one stop, and you can fly to any part of the world.

Johannes Walter said that Lufthansa's commitment to Hungary has not ceased, and 141 destinations can be reached from Budapest with its flights.

Leif Eski Herstrom, CFO of BMW Manufacturing Hungary Kft., described the expansion of flight capacity as an important event, which also praises the work of Lufthansa and Debrecen Airport. He added that developments have been made in recent years that allow larger aircraft to land in Debrecen.

He pointed out: Today, more than a thousand employees work in Debrecen, preparing the factory to start car production next year. The number of employees is constantly increasing, and Lufthansa's larger capacity flights enable its employees to travel home and back in good quality.

László Papp (Fidesz-KDNP), Mayor of Debrecen, said that trust is the basis of cooperation between the city, BMW and Lufthansa.

In his opinion, the airport also enhances Debrecen's competitiveness, which is why its continued development is important. He stated that they have upgraded passenger safety equipment, begun expanding the passenger terminal, and their plans include building a new runway and a new passenger terminal.

Lufthansa flights between Debrecen and Munich operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Starting Friday, the 215-seat Airbus A321neo will carry passengers twice a week.
