This picturesque place has become the most beautiful beach in the world according to European travelers

Our portal visited Falésia Beach and its surroundings immediately after getting acquainted with them, so that we can offer new tips to our readers.

Direct flights twice weekly starting June

Falesia Beach, with its very special beauty, dotted with white and red rocks, is located more than 3,000 kilometers from Hungary, so a plane is definitely recommended to get there. The nearest international airport is in Faro, which is currently only accessible from Budapest by transfer. However, from 2 June, Ryanair will launch a direct flight from Budapest to Faro twice a week: on Thursdays and Sundays. The cheapest round-trip ticket is now around 75,000 HUF, and the flight time is 3 hours and 40 minutes.

We explored Praia de Falésia and its surroundings with a rental car, and from Lisbon Airport you can get here at a comfortable pace in 3 hours. Except for the last few kilometers, you can drive on a quality highway. However, from June to September we only have to drive 32 km, which means less than 40 minutes from Faro Airport.

On the smooth country road closer to the coast, we can drive more slowly due to settlements and traffic restrictions, but we can see much more. The landscape is gorgeous, and the cypress trees typical of southern Portugal are currently light green. If we want to go faster, it is recommended to use the highway that runs away from the coast. The track is paid, but not expensive, we only paid a few euros to use it on the southern section.

A natural marvel from above and below

The beach with fine golden sand is surrounded by sea in all shades of blue. Under the sparkling sun, the sea looks turquoise near the shore and deep blue far away. The natural wonder is complemented by bright red and white rocks. The red color is due to the iron oxide content of the rocks, and the diversity of the rocks is the result of rain and wind. Red earth is a distinctive feature of the entire region, but in Praia de Falésia the meeting of colors results in a very special natural wonder.

We enjoyed the beach until sunset at 9:30pm. The beach can be reached on foot, and parking is located on top of the rocks. If you want to admire the most beautiful beach in the world from above, we have a well-built boardwalk. This type of promenade is also typical of other southern Portuguese beaches.

Above the rocks you find a cypress forest, its bright green colors mixed with the red earth provide an amazing sight. Once you reach the beach, you can walk for hours and collect shells. There are hardly any tourists here in mid-May, even though the weather is great.

The sea water temperature was 17 degrees when we were there. Even in August, which is considered the warmest month, the sea water temperature rises to only 23-24 degrees, so if you do not like excessively fresh water, you should look for accommodation with a swimming pool.

June and September: the best months

What is the best time to visit Praia de Falésia – We have asked this question to several local hosts. We received similar answers: June and September are the most recommended months.

At that time, the average daily temperature is between 23 and 30 degrees, the sun shines from morning to evening, rainfall is minimal, and not all sunbeds are occupied yet. However, if someone wants to drink champagne, it is recommended that there be July and August: there are a lot of entertainment options in the area at this time, the beaches are full, and two water parks are waiting for children.

During the day, it's not uncommon for temperatures to reach 40 degrees, but the good news is that there are usually gentle winds at the beach, making the scorching heat more bearable.

Bike, surfing, golf, yoga

Undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful surf schools in the world is located here, and you can learn at all levels, usually in English.

We note here that 50 beach volleyball courts have been built on Portimão Beach, which is located in close proximity to Falesia Beach: everyone from beginners to advanced levels can learn here. 'Regular' and electric bicycles can be rented at most large hotels, and cycle paths are well developed.

Next to Praia de Falésia, we also found a yoga and golf paradise, Pestana Alvor Praia Premium Beach Resort. Five types of yoga classes are announced in the complex, and the classes are held in a garden overlooking the most beautiful beach in the world.

Appetite without extra kilos

Portuguese desserts with vanilla cream are very popular all over the world, and if we live well with them every day, we can gain some extra pounds here too. But the food in southern Portugal is generally healthy.

The most common dish here is cod, which can be found in almost every restaurant. Restaurant options are particularly varied, with cooked and fresh vegetables abundantly served alongside main dishes.

Be sure to try the Greek and cantaloupe here, both of which are sweet with honey, not to mention the grapes. Prices for main courses are very reasonable compared to other southern European countries: a main course of fish, chicken or pasta costs 10-15 euros, and this also includes the hospitality.
