A bloodthirsty dingo that attacked humans was killed in Australia

Wildlife authorities have killed the leader of a group of dingoes that attacked an Australian runner this week.

As reported by Origo, 23-year-old Sarah Betty was attacked by three or four dingoes on Monday when she was jogging on Kagari Beach (formerly Fraser Island).

The dingo has anchored a house in the sea, using the same hunting strategy that rangers say they use against large prey such as kangaroos.

The runner is saved by two tourists who lead them on. One said he doubted she would have survived the attack if they had gotten there later.

The Brisbane resident was taken to hospital by helicopter and is in stable condition.

Queensland wildlife authorities captured and euthanized the herd leader involved in the attack on Wednesday. It was reported that the difficult decision was also supported by the indigenous people of the island.

This is the second time that a bird has been killed in recent weeks by dogs for biting a human and behaving in a threatening manner. The former referee was executed in June after he attacked a seven-year-old boy and a 42-year-old French woman. This wild dog was the first to be euthanized on the island since 2019.

The authorities blame the dingoes for the increasingly reckless behavior of the tourists, whom they feed and allow close despite the ban.

The dingo, which was euthanized on Wednesday, was one of three animals fitted with a tracking collar due to its risky behaviour. When he was snapped by the collar in April, authorities said, he was two years old and weighed 17kg, which is heavy for a dingo and indicates he was being fed by humans.

Dingoes are believed to be wild, domesticated animals that have lived in Australia for thousands of years. The largest sandy island in the world, K’gari off the coast of Queensland is famous for its dingo population.

According to the Australian Department of the Environment, there have been a total of 33 dingo attacks since 2018.

Queensland authorities estimate that there are 25-30 dingoes living in Kgari. The herd consists of 3-12 individuals. Animals that do not bark but howl like wolves are protected on the island.
