Peruvian police searched the home of the South American country's president, Dina Boluarte, searching more than a dozen Rolex watches, claiming she had not declared them on her ownership declaration. He writes BBC.

The case, known as Rolexgate, erupted when the media noticed Bolwarti's luxury watches at public events, which he had been wearing since taking office in December 2022.

The Peruvian government called the raid “disproportionate and unconstitutional.” Gustavo Adrianzen wrote about the political unrest on X (formerly known as Twitter), and according to him, it affects the entire country and threatens serious investments.

Bolwarti said last week that he took power with clean hands and will leave office with clean hands. He did not deny that he had a Rolex watch, but said that he bought it with his own money, which he had been collecting since he was eighteen years old.

Footage published by the Reuters news agency shows authorities breaking down the door of the presidential residence, likely after Bulwarti's employees refused to voluntarily hand over evidence, such as invoices for purchasing watches.

MTI noted that Bolwarti is already under investigation for genocide, manslaughter and aggravated assault. His inauguration led to riots in which more than fifty people were killed.
