The sky has turned green in America, and scientists don’t even understand what could happen

Residents of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, witnessed a very strange event. The city sky turned completely green. The natural phenomenon may have been caused by a strange storm, Futurism writes.

The fateful event occurred when a massive thunderstorm system called Derecho swept through the area. It injured several people and destroyed property and thousands of power supplies. Derechos is powerful and destructive, and is known for its hurricane-like winds and torrential, raging rain for hundreds of miles. Although they can cause strange phenomena, it is unprecedented to paint the sky with such a neon color.

Several theories attempt to explain this phenomenon, one of which is that heavy raindrops and hail can scatter and reflect light. Thunderstorms often occur in the late afternoon or evening, when sunsets cast yellow and red hues on the blue sky during the day.

Water retains its blue color exceptionally well, and experts believe that raindrops of a certain diameter can scatter all light except for bluish colors. Meteorologists believe that if there was enough fluid behind the storm and it hit at the right time of day, the yellow and blue light would combine to become green.

At the same time, experts added, no previous dershaw created such a color.
