The deepest and most dangerous cave in the world is located a stone's throw from our country

Vierovkina Cave, the deepest known cave on Earth, is located on the eastern coast of the Black Sea in Croatia. Its depth is 2,223 metres, more than twice the height of Blue Peak. It took Russian cavers 50 years and 30 expeditions to reach the record depth in 2018, but they believe there is still much more to explore. Located in the Arabica massif of the Gagra Mountains, the cave is one of the four deepest caves in the world.

Viryovkina prides itself on its magnificent underground chambers, but it also has a dark past. Many cavers have already risked their lives during their exploration, and quite a few have been lost forever in the depths.

A team of cavers set out to explore new crevices and discover new animal species within Vygovkina. Three days later, disaster struck. Two team members sent a distress call to the roof, warning them of the danger of water leakage. The camping comrades were not worried, but soon gurgling sounds rose around their tents, indicating trouble.

Vergovkina Cave is a magnificent natural wonder, but it is also a dangerous and harsh place. Brave explorers who venture into the depths are aware of the risks, but the pull of scientific discovery and unraveling the mystery is stronger than fear.
