Is technology hurting our brains? 🤔 | By Yash Bansal | December 2023

In today’s age of technology, we seem to be always connected to our devices. Our phones, tablets, and other technology have become such an integral part of our lives that they bring us both joy and stress; But is using this technology actually harming our brains?

The effects of technology on the brain are becoming increasingly more alarming 🤐, and there is evidence to suggest that excessive use of technology can lead to problems such as digital addiction, decreased concentration, and even increased risk of depression and anxiety. According to research, individuals who use devices excessively can become addicted to the rush of “likes” they get on social media, or the dopamine that certain technology can release in our brains.

How does technology affect our memory?

The effects of excessive technology use on our memory have been extensively studied and the results are more disturbing than you might expect. Excessive use of technology can negatively impact our ability to retain memories and process information. Studies have shown that traditional paper-based assessments are better at helping students remember and process information than assessments taken on a computer or smartphone; This is because the brain needs to be actively involved in the task to process and remember the information correctly.

Many of us constantly receive a stream of information from various media sources, and we often do not retain this information, because our brains have become accustomed to quickly absorbing and processing information. The constant multitasking we do on our devices also leads to decreased concentration and decreased performance on tasks that require focus and attention to detail.
