Index – Abroad – An Orthodox Jew was fatally wounded with a knife in Zurich

The authorities explained that “the cantonal police and the juvenile prosecutor's office are investigating in all directions and do not rule out the possibility of a specifically anti-Semitic crime.”

The victim is a 50-year-old man. Police were alerted to a plot involving several people on Saturday evening. The dispute and events that led to the crime are still being clarified.

Yehuda Spielmann, head of the Zurich Jewish community, told Channel X that the condition of the man who was attacked had stabilized. Speaking to Swiss television, Jonathan Kreutner, Secretary General of the Jewish Community, expressed his shock.

It is very rare for the situation to escalate into physical attacks against Jews in Switzerland. Such a case truly represents a new perspective

he added.

Following the incident, police strengthened protection for Jewish facilities in Zurich, MTI reported.

As we wrote, a similar incident occurred on Sunday in Paris, where a man in his 60s was beaten while leaving a synagogue. The unidentified attacker described him as a “dirty Jew.” Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin condemned “another anti-Semitic attack” and described it as “an act that cannot be classified.”
