Charity Gala: Ten Tens from Five Continents on Saturday at the Citadel

Gabor Toth

The title of the charitable art event is Music for Life, and its background is that it took place recently, in part, on the initiative of the Greek Catholic Bishop of Nagyvárad, Virgil Persia, the Burlo Garofolo Pediatric Clinic in Trieste and the Nagyvárad County Hospital. Among others, in order to provide the most modern treatment to Romanian cancer patients in Italy. The Federation of Italians in Bihar supported the cause as an organizer by organizing the current concert, and proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the said medical purpose. The concert was not originally planned to be part of the summer season of Initio 2022 from Nagyvárad Philharmonic, but the music establishment is now announcing it on filarmonicaoradea.ro, also from here, also available from blt.ro/muzica-pentru-viata- eveniment-caritabil.html Buy tickets online for the event. More than 1,000 seats are provided in the castle courtyard, and ticket prices can be purchased at 80, 120, 160 and 200 lei depending on the seat category.

Let’s see the performers too. Orchestra conductor Leonardo Quadrini, who has traveled the world from Australia to South America, is known in his homeland mainly through festival concerts broadcast by the Italian public media RAI, and in the most professional circles as an opera conductor. Quadrini isn’t performing in Romania for the first time either, he’s already conducted the Craiova Opera, Bucharest Romanian Broadcasting Chamber Orchestra, Sibiu Philharmonic Orchestra, and has been recorded on a CD with the Timisoara Philharmonic Orchestra. Most of the delegates who now perform have some connection in common with the homeland of opera, i.e. Italy, either through their previous studies or active career. So, the ten soloists come from the same number of countries, including from five continents: Fabio Andreotti (Italy), Ignacio Encinas (Spain), Armaldo Klugeri (Albania), Vitaly Kovalchuk (Ukraine), Mihai Orzicana (Romania), Rodrigo Trossino (Mexico, but dual citizenship, also Italian), Sebastian Verada (Chile born in Uruguay), Kofi Julian Attumbre, stage name Giuliano Fadio (Ivory Coast), Kawasaki Sinnexiro (Japan), Jianwei Liu (China). It is also interesting – although not directly related to current performers – that the missing continent from the list, Australia, is where a world-renowned singing group called The Ten Tenors has been located since 1995, so beyond the concept of the three most important musical periods Known to all, they may even be the inspiration for the idea of the current 10-period concert set.

The charity gig program hasn’t been published yet, we’ve looked into it, but since there’s no way to list 25 program numbers here, we’re just going to highlight the best. The most famous Italian tenor songs from folk operas such as Love Potion (Donizetti), Tosca, Bohémélet (Puccini), The Troubadour, Traviata, Rigoletto, Aida (Verdi), as well as many sunny Neapolitan songs (Funiculi, funicula, Torna e surriento, O Sole mio), in addition to these, many other disciplines will also be offered, and of course, the Turandot’s Nessun dorma will be played simultaneously by all ten tenors.

In the event of bad weather, the concert will be moved to the Trade Union Cultural Center.
