Have you ever wondered what it would be like to walk on board the amazing Titanic? As always… there is a video game mod to take you back to the legendary sunken ship. True, the game itself is “not a chicken of the day”.

Titanic Mod for Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven does exactly what you write on the box, i.e. puts the RMS Titanic into the mafia – TheGeek writes. However, this is not just any 3D model that we see from afar – the mod team is trying to make

“One of the most detailed and accurate free 3D reconstructions of the Titanic ever.”

Players will be able to explore the ship in freeroam mode, and the work done so far looks really impressive:

Above all, the model has its own story! In addition, it promises fully synchronized missions with separate pass sections and a new soundtrack.

“When the rival mob boss Murillo finds out about the deal, he makes sure the road isn’t too nice. He does everything he can to get the car.”

And, of course, the famous sinking of the Titanic is also in position. The player will be able to run around the ship while it is submerged and watch the ship

“The change from a luxury trip to a catastrophic spectacle.”

Robin Bongaarts, the lead developer (and Dutch naval architect), said he started work on the project in September 2006.

“It is no coincidence that my profession has a very similar theme to what the mod is about, both of which arose out of my cube-like interest in the Titanic and large ocean liners in general.”

Bongaarts said.

“In 2006, right before the mod began, there was no Titanic that would have allowed you to roam freely on the ship. Sure, there were Ship Simulators and Adventure Out of Time, but each had their own limitations one way or another. When I realized” modifiability” for the Mafia, I thought it would be a good place to try making my own virtual Titanic… Engines like Unreal Engine and Unity were less available to hobbyists back then, like today. Using an existing game like Mafia would make it a lot easier, as I would have to design ship and throw it away.”

The model was originally designed to be a simple 3D model, but Bongaarts discovered tools like Sketchup and Cinema 4D that simplified the modeling process and came with even greater ambitions.

“Since I had no idea about the game development/modification, the in-game implementation, and how complex and big a ship like the Titanic would be, I thought I could design everything in an instant,” said Bongaarts. “I started in September 2006 and estimated development would take about three months. It took four years for the remote model to take shape.”

After graduating from school and college, Bongaarts also found that his remaining free time to work in fashion was much less. Although the project took much longer than expected, Bongaarts said work on the edit “has become a part of my life” and that it “frankly will be missed” once it’s completed.

When released, the mode should be compatible with the base and steam versions of Mafia: City of Lost Heaven 2002, and is set to work with the GOG version as well. If you want to track the progress of the mod, check out the Mod DB page You can watch it here Or you can join to societal discord.
