This year, one of the most popular series on Netflix starting in 2022, Wednesday, is shortlisted in 12 categories, including Best Soundtrack. The background music for The Addams Family Story was written by American composer duo Danny Elfman-Chris Bacon.
However, the scores have been revived by professional Budapest Symphony Orchestras, including cellist Matthias Olviti from Debrecen, also known from Balázs Szabó’s ensemble.
The musician from Cívisváros spoke to our portal about the nomination. – Obviously, the names of the specialists were already a guarantee of quality, so we secretly hoped to get some kind of recognition. Regardless, we were very happy with the news and proud to be able to participate in this project,” he said. He added that this category does not mean entering a song, but rather the background music for the series.
Looking back at the works
The cellist said he loves the Wednesday series, too. – It was interesting that during the recording, the scenes were shown to us as a kind of crutches, so I watched the episodes for the first time while playing the cello. After the release, of course, we also looked at the parts that were already fully finalized.
When we shoot, I try to relax and enjoy the production as a whole, but in the case of Wednesday, there were a few times I had to redo a scene. I wanted to hear just the music separately, what the final mix was like, and how it fit into the specific scene

Mátyás Ölveti collaborates on many productions, sometimes resulting in funny situations. – We have a lot of work of this kind, and often the work is finally completed after only months. That’s why it also happened that while watching a movie, the melodies that played were so familiar, and then I realized in the cast list that we also did this, I forgot about it, – he said with a laugh.
Mission: Impossible
In addition to the popular Netflix series, the members of Budapest Scoring create music for many world-famous films, suffice it to mention only the Oscar-winning Livers. Often, musicians don’t even know exactly what they’re working on while recording. – Recently, there was a case when there were only symbols on the sheet music, because they wanted to hide what was done from us.
It was a long and careful job, but once we got down to a musical theme almost everyone in the world would instantly recognize. That’s when we found out we were working on the latest Mission Impossible movie, which just hit theaters a few days ago

As already mentioned, the Emmy Gala will take place on September 19, which the team of Mátyás Ölveti is looking forward to, but in the meantime, they will also conjure up the musical accompaniment of several world-famous productions.
