The King of Horror responded generously when approached by Remedy during development.
So far this year, we’ve had no shortage of great games – just think of the great Dead Space remake, Diablo IV or Final Fantasy XVI – and we can count on many more exciting releases in the months ahead.
One of these is Alan Wake II, a sequel to 2010’s Alan Wake, in which we can experience the most terrifying adventures of the titular writer and FBI agent he ever dreamed of in an alternate dimension. The creative director of the developer Remedy, Sam Lake, talked about the game even at the Summer Game Fest, where during the interviews after the official presentation, he also mentioned an interesting secret behind the scenes of the first part.
Those who played the original Alan Wake or the updated version published in 2021 may remember that the mystical story begins with the main character’s monologue, quoting Stephen King about one of the ground rules for chills.
Stephen King once wrote that nightmares exist beyond logic, and there is little joy in explanations, which is the opposite of the poetry of fear. In a horror story, the victim keeps asking ‘why? ’, but there is no explanation, nor should it be.
