The Central Statistical Office announced that 6,650 children were born in Hungary in January this year, 902 fewer than in the first month of 2023. 2023 saw a historic decline in the number of births, but January was the only month to make the number higher than The average for many years – and now, in comparison, there has been a very large decline of 12%.

However, the mortality side of the demographic statistics improved: 11,723 people died, 134 fewer than in January of last year.
