Debris of a crashed North Korean space rocket has been found

The South Korean military announced on Friday that it had found a large piece of debris from a North Korean space missile that crashed two weeks ago.

According to South Korea, the piece of debris is part of a missile carrying a North Korean military reconnaissance satellite.

which they tried unsuccessfully to shoot at the end of May.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff announced Friday that the cylindrical piece of wreckage was recovered from the Yellow Sea on Thursday evening.

Seoul TV channels reported that the 12-meter-long piece of debris would be transferred to a South Korean naval base for examination there, in conjunction with US experts.

Seoul hopes the investigation will provide additional information on the status and level of development of North Korea’s missile program.

On May 31, shortly after the launch of its first military reconnaissance satellite, North Korea admitted that a technical error had occurred.

The launch vehicle crashed into the sea about 200 kilometers west of South Korea’s Iosyonkto Island.
And the South Korean military announced at the time that it had recovered a piece of debris from the sea, which was presumably a piece of the downed launch vehicle. South Korea continues to search for more pieces of debris.

The United States, Japan and South Korea condemned the failure of the missile launch and accused Pyongyang of being a target of the country’s intercontinental ballistic missile programme.
