The Minister of the Interior said in a meeting of the People’s Welfare Committee in Parliament, today, Tuesday, that the average increase in doctors’ wages last January amounted to 11 percent, and next March, the second phase of adjusting the wages of skilled workers and nurses will follow. As reported by MTI.

At the annual hearing, Sandor Pinter stated: Currently, the average gross salary of doctors is 2,197,000 HUF, and the average gross salary of nurses is 595,000 HUF. When determining the wages of specialized nurses, 37 percent of the wages of doctors were taken as a basis.

According to the minister, nurses certainly deserve more than this, but the current economic situation allows this much more.

Benret believes that the Hungarian healthcare situation has improved in the past year, as the sector’s tasks are coordinated by the Ministry of the Interior, and that the government will create the best healthcare system in Europe. With the introduction of electronic healthcare services, Hungary was ahead of the rest of Europe. In terms of hospital infections, we are in the seventh best position in Europe, and he is not satisfied with it, he wants us to be first.

The Interior Minister’s report was preceded by a heated debate on the agenda. The proposal by Gabriela Šelmici (Fidesz) was voted down by the committee, so that members could ask the Prime Minister for a maximum of three minutes, which was repeatedly criticized by opposition representatives and the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Zoltan Varga.

Pinter explained: Trials of the new on-call system currently in use in fourteen provinces show that care has become better and more reliable, and family doctors have to treat fewer patients. Following the positive data, they plan to make a decision by June on how to implement the new system in Budapest.

He also stated: It is not true that the number of workers in the health sector is constantly decreasing.

He considered abolishing rewards and making them punishable among the most important results. He said: Insolvency is an immoral basis, on which a just system cannot be built.
