343 Industries helps recover lost Halo 1 content

It featured some items that come from the original version of Halo, which is in an entirely different genre.

The modding team called Digsite has had some great help restoring old and deleted Halo content. For the past year they’ve been working with 343 Industries on the restoration, and since they’ve been dealing with the Halo IP for the past decade (both how good it is and how good the character is), the team has been in great help. (True, they weren’t behind the content in question, but Bungie…)

Digsite takes care of design and production docs, Bungie feedback notes, compiled maps, and source data, if it comes to previously unseen multiplayer courses. Among the restored content, it is worth noting the multiplayer tracks originally intended for the PC port of Halo: Combat Evolved. (Gearbox software was behind the 2003 port.) According to Ludus, a member of Digsite, Gearbox made a lot of new textures that had never been used, and he thought it would be too sad to have them remain unused, so he included Indoor in a to in path. New, it can better use newly found bitmaps.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection will also be augmented by the long-lost demo. We’re talking about what we saw at Macworld in 1999 (yes, Bungie was originally closer to Apple, and Marathon was also released for Mac in 1994. Let’s not forget that before Halo was an Xbox-exclusive shooter franchise, Bungie planned Halo to be a Mac exclusive, According to Digsite, it took some work to get it to work in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, setting it up as a kind of sandbox for us to play in, explore, or even use for our own mods.

Vehicles and enemy types from the Halo RTS origins will also appear, which is an important moment in the game’s preservation, and that said, there are still interesting things to look forward to. If Halo Infinite didn’t turn out the way Microsoft wanted it to, at least there has to be a hit here…
