The number of places students will get in general and higher education in Hungary in the next academic year has been revealed

At its meeting on Thursday, the government approved the plan for enrollment in public and higher education for the academic year 2024-2025.

According to the Council of Ministers’ announcement, the school enrollment plan numbers for the 2024-2025 academic year in general education will not change compared to the 2023-2024 academic year. Places are also provided for minors who apply for or have been granted protection in Romania, as well as for stateless minors whose residence in Romania is officially recognized.

There are a total of 665 thousand places in pre-school education (in nurseries and kindergartens) in the next academic year, news agency Agerpres reported.A total of 933,000 places are provided in the primary grades, and 813,000 places are provided in the upper division of primary schools.

There are 134,000 places in the ninth grade of secondary school, and another 9,500 places in the evening and reduced attendance sections. There are 16,000 places in the eleventh grades of the evening section. There are 60,000 places in first-year vocational school classes, and 35,911 places in post-secondary education departments. A total of 21,500 places are provided in art education departments in primary schools, and 15,500 places in sports schools. School sports clubs have 53,000 places.

A total of 30,000 places will be made available in the next academic year in compulsory primary education with low attendance and under the Second Chance programme, including organized education in prisons. 30,450 places have been approved in educational institutions for children with special educational needs.

A total of 113,078 higher education places have been approved, of which 68,092 are for bachelor's education, 36,164 are for master's education, 3,422 are for doctoral education, and 5,400 are for medical residency training. 1,900 places in general education and 7,065 places in higher education are allocated to Romanian citizens living in the diaspora. There are 1,800 places for foreign citizens in general education and 4,430 in higher education.
