Index - Sports - Marton Vukovicz withdrew from the Olympics due to an injury

Marton Vosowicz announced his second double-court match against Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, but this morning the Hungarian tennis player disappeared from the announcement on the information page. As it turned out, it was not a typo: Marton Fukowicz withdrew from the Olympic tennis tournament due to a shoulder injury – the Hungarian Olympic Committee informed the indicator about this.

Fucsovics recently had a huge career at Wimbledon: he reached the quarter-finals of the grasscourt tennis tournament, where he was defeated by the later winner, world leader Novak Djokovic in three sets. He could have met the Serbian tennis player in the semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics, but this will not happen, as the Hungarian player withdrew.

With a heavy heart and pains both external and internal, but I have to say goodbye early to the first Olympic Games of my life, which I can be a participant in. I took the track that I wanted to keep in stealth because, as I have mentioned several times, it meant so much to me that for the first time in my career I was able to get to the Olympics, where I can now compete with so many of my countrymen, earning glory for my country. But no matter how I did everything and they did it for me straight away and at home doing my best to get on the court, taking into account many aspects – especially the hours of constant physical stress on the tennis players – we still decided it from today’s match , withdrew from Hubert Hurkacz’s (ATP-12.) match without a match, also under the following contests. I’m sorry that I couldn’t show my abilities at the Olympics. I hope to get another chance. I am disappointed…

Martin Vosovich wrote in his statement.

His opponent in the first round was Hubert Hurkacz, the 12th and 7th in the world rankings, whom he has met twice so far and lost both times.

In addition to Márton Fucsovics, two-time defending champion Andy Murray also fell. The British tennis player announced the news shortly before playing on the main court against ninth star Felix Auger-Aliassime. Thus, the opponent of the Canadian tennis player will be Australian Max Purcell. Organizers added that Murray will not be holding back in the doubles, and will be by Joe Salisbury’s side. No reason was given for the withdrawal.

As stated earlier, Tímea Babos has canceled her participation before the Olympics due to her injury, so the tennis competitions are held in Tokyo without the Hungarians.
