It’s nice to know that if you can put everything in the fridge after a big week of shopping, it’s not just about making the most of your space.
With regard to vegetables and fruits, it is useful to think about what one puts next to them, since some fruits produce ethylene gas, which speeds up the processes of ripening and thus deterioration. It is important to separate them in the pantry or in the fruit bowl, since the already accelerated ripening process takes place in the same way and even in less time due to the high temperature.

It lists the vegetables and fruits that produce the most ethylene and which ones react the worst. This way you can easily see what not to put next to each other in the fridge.
Ethylene fruits include apples, pears, avocados, bananas, mangoes, peaches, watermelons, strawberries and other berries, lemons, watermelons, honey melons, pineapples, oranges, tangerines, grapefruits, nectarines, and peaches. Among the vegetables, potatoes and tomatoes (which, in fact, are also fruits), emit.
Do not place the listed ones too close to each other or keep them away from fruits and vegetables that are sensitive to a lot of ethylene, as this will cause them to ripen and deteriorate quickly. These are cabbage, spinach, corn, lettuce, broccoli, mushrooms, radishes, asparagus, broccoli, green beans, peppers, and cucumbers. Buds and herbs are also sensitive to ethylene gas.
If there isn’t enough space in the refrigerator and there are no more drawers in which to separate infested vegetables and fruits well, you may want to get a few storage boxes to help prevent ethylene from being released.
