The 42-year-old boxer last played against Keith Thurman in a WBA Heavyweight Championship match in July 2019, which he also won by joint registration. The American-Filipino contender is currently the undefeated world relay champion in WBC and IBF after defeating Danny Garcia by scoring in December 2020, taking his 27th victory. The Elite Champions also defeated Mickey Garcia, Sean Porter, and Keel Brook.
He defeated Manny Pacquiao last time in 2017 by a combined score against Jeff Horn.
The other biggest news in the world of boxing this week is a recent court ruling Tyson Fury will have to face Deontay Wilder for the third time. At WBC, World Champion Fury, as we previously wrote, would collect the titles against WBA, WBO and IBF defending champion Anthony Joshua in August, but instead could press Wilder on July 24 in Las Vegas.
