Neither Neanderthals nor Sapiens are distinct
According to Israel Hershkowitz and Yossi Zeidner, the researchers who found and described the find, the Neanderthals here were related to Neanderthals living to the north and Sapiens who were gaining land in the south.
The remains consist of the right phalanx and an almost complete lower jaw (jawbone). After analysis, the team realized that the fragments belonged to a species that they believe was not fully Homo sapiens, but also not Neanderthal, that is, not a human species that lived in any other region.
The parietal bone had very ancient features that are not typical for sapiens. However, it was too thick to belong to a Neanderthal.
According to the researchers, these individuals could be members of the last remaining species standing between Neanderthals and Sapiens. If they are right, it could explain other puzzling situations. These include the so-called discoverer in 1932. Lady Taboo.
However, some are skeptical. In a blog post, paleontologist John Hawkes suggested that there may be other explanations besides the presence of a new, previously unknown group of Homo sapiens. According to him, one of these reasons could be that they belong to the Genesovo people, who also had intimate relations with Neanderthals and Sapiens.
According to him, there are very few discoveries and we do not know enough about Neanderthals – even though we know a lot about them – to be able to say that we are aware of their characteristics. During the 400,000-year evolution, there could have been deviations here as well, which would make a discovery even 120,000 years old strange.
In short, we do not know exactly what the Israeli researchers outside Tel Aviv discovered, but in the future, more research may clarify the questions that have arisen.
