In the southwestern region of Romania, there has been heavy rain for several days, which has raised the water level in all rivers and streams, and many of them have overflowed. According to on-site information from Digi24 news channel, sixty people have been evacuated from Grecesti village in Gorj district after a flash flood destroyed their homes.
According to the George County Office of Emergency Management (ISU), military firefighters are helping to rescue people and animals and put out flames in several settlements. Two women had to be rescued from the car after they got stuck on the flooded road, and one person had to be rescued from a flood isolated area using a rope by mountain rescuers from Zsilvásárhely.
On Friday, in addition to the Romanian Meteorological Service (ANM), the Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) also ordered a third alert level until Saturday afternoon for the provinces of Gorg and Mehdinti in southern Oltenia, and the provinces of Krasu. -Szörény and Hunyad in southern Transylvania. The Bánság and Partium rivers have a level two flood alert, and the rest of Transylvania has a level one flood alert.
Romania’s new Environment Minister Mircea Vecchi convened the committee responsible for emergencies on Friday and asked the authorities to be available to the population at full capacity.
