What is AstroCamera Contest?
In the first three years only Poles participated in the competition, but as of 2014 AstroCamera has entered the international arena. Winners will receive cash prizes and bespoke sculptures made by local sculptor Tomasz Radziewicz. True to tradition, entries were expected to fall into three categories this year: deep sky objects, solar system celestial bodies, and astronomical objects. Hundreds of images received this year were evaluated by a ten-member jury, whose members are: Magdalena Mazewska (astronomer, chair of the jury), Krzysztof Czarte (ESO), Piotr Gnacinski (University of Gdańsk), Bogdan Garzyna (astrophotographer ), Wojtek Korsak (Polish Association of Photographers), Maciej Mikolajewski (Urania), Bogna Pazderska (Astronomer), Przemyslaw Rudz (Polish Space Agency – POLSA), Sebastian Soberski (Polish Astronomical Society – PTMA) and Magdalena Wiecek-Olszewska (Former Astronomer) foreman of the jury).
successes this year
On June 28, 2023, the results will be announced. For the first time in the competition’s history, a galactic astrophotographer’s work can be atop the podium. Lionel sucks And its comet images took first place in the category “Heavenly bodies of the solar system”. The jury already ranked one of his shots third last year, but now his five pictures of comets have been named best in the category as a kind of photo series.

Peter Veltuti His astronomical images were also evaluated as a series of images, and in the “Deep Objects” category he finished in a tie for third. Center, thus repeating the result achieved by András Papp in 2019. Péter Feltóti has been given three different images of interstellar dust and gas clouds and one galaxy image in Gdańsk.
