Index – Tech-Science – Australians ban AI in assessment

The Australian Research Council has banned the use of artificial intelligence to evaluate apps because it claims some evaluation reports are written by publicly available artificial intelligence engines, according to reports. Research professional news.

The allegations were first announced in late June by a Twitter account called ARC Tracker.

One of the researchers told Research Professional News that part of the comments brought their attention to the potential use of artificial intelligence. He said a complaint had been filed and the suspicious report removed from review.

Many other researchers believe that the evaluation of their applications for the ARC Discovery Scholarship was written in part by artificial intelligence.

The new policy for reviewers released by ARC on July 7 specifically addresses the use of artificial intelligence, but the researcher who runs the ARC Tracker account said that while it’s good to see ARC take action, it won’t solve the problem.

What would be more effective, according to the researchers, is for grant applicants to flag such unprofessional reviews.

ARC said the new policy is effective immediately and will apply to all current and future funding plans.

In accordance with the policy, ARC will continue to actively work with domestic and international partners on this issue and will monitor the use of AI and update the policy as necessary.
