Volkswagen announced last October that a decision could be made in the first half of 2022 on where to build its planned battery plant in Eastern Europe, which would be the fourth in a row. The German automaker plans to set up a total of six such production bases across Europe by the end of the decade.

The final location is also very important for Hungary, according to a Volkswagen report, in addition to the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia, Hungary is also competing for investment.
Volkswagen Salzgitter Group battery factorywith an annual production capacity of 40 gigawatt-hours, and work is scheduled to start as early as 2025. This investment could reach 2 billion euros (about 772 billion HUF) and create 2,500 new jobs in Germany.
