After the update, all software that can run on the Steam Deck handheld console can theoretically run with SteamOS in cars, including Cyberpunk 2077, GTA V, and Elden Ring. Deck-compatible software runs at a minimum of 30 frames per second on a 7-inch Deck Display at 1280 x 800 resolution, while on Teslas, it’s displayed on a 17-inch center console at 2200 x 1300, and can be controlled using Bluetooth wireless controls , so that they can be controlled using the mouse / keyboard.
While this all sounds great, it does present some issues. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said last December that a formal safety investigation had been launched into about 580,000 Tesla cars sold since 2017 because the games available on the cars’ front-center touchscreens were dangerous for drivers. As a result, Elon Musks restricted the feature so that games could not be played while the car was in motion, after it became clear that the feds deemed this method of distraction while driving irresponsible.
