Roszatom started building units 7 and 8 of the Tianwani Nuclear Power Plant in China and Units 3 and 4 of the Hidapu Nuclear Power Plant.
On the occasion of the start of construction work, Alexei Lykhachov, CEO of Roszatom confirmed:
“The already completed units of the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant are operating reliably and make a major contribution to energy security in China. The units, built with Russia’s participation, have so far generated more than 270 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.
Units 7 and 8 of the Tianwani Nuclear Power Plant and Units 3 and 4 of the Hsidapu Nuclear Power Plant will work with the VVER-1200 reactors. Block type VVER-1200 is the flagship of Roszatom’s third generation pressurized water technology. Currently, there are four VVER-1200 units in operation in Russia and one in Belarus. Roszatom’s international order was delayed related to 35 nuclear power plant units, which are in various stages of construction in 12 countries.
Equipped with a VVER-1200 type reactor, the Block 3+ has many advantages over previous generations of reactors. VVER-1000 has 20 percent more performance, 30-40 percent less service personnel, and the unit’s guaranteed service life doubles to 60 years, which can be extended for another 20 years.
So far this technology has been chosen by China, Hungary, Finland, Turkey, Belarus, Bangladesh and other countries.
