MTI writes: According to the specialist, 4,420 cases of infection were diagnosed in the past 24 hours from the tests carried out.
The number of cases identified since the start of the epidemic is approaching two million, with the number of deaths already exceeding 51,000. Last week, 397 people died from the infection.
Maria Jose Sierra reported that about 770,000 coronavirus tests were performed in the last week of last year, with a positive rate of 10 percent. The expert stressed that given the incubation period, it is too early to assess the impact of the holiday period on the spread of the epidemic, but described the increasing trend as a cause for concern.
Due to the growing number of cases, new restrictions will be imposed in Catalonia from Thursday to ten days. Among other things, shopping centers, gyms and non-essential services will be closed on weekends. Freedom of movement between settlements is restricted in the area.
