The United Nations prepared the said report based on the reports of a total of 2,300 people, and its main conclusion was that Russian authorities are committing “numerous violations” in the occupied territories of Ukraine, violating numerous human rights conventions.
According to the report, the Russians’ main goal is to erase the Ukrainian national identity. That is why the Russians impose their language, laws, legal system, educational system and citizenship on the inhabitants of the occupied territories. All this is also supported by intimidation: The Russian authorities arrested a large number of civilians, and more than once used torture and beatings against residents of the regions.
Russia is also expanding its control over the information space: Ukrainian media products are not available in the occupied territories, and access to telephone lines and Internet portals is also restricted.
The Russian Federation has done things that have violated the social composition of isolated communities and individuals, all of which will have serious and long-term consequences for Ukrainian society as a whole.
Volker Türk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, commented on the report.
Russia denies all accusations.
