PVAMU Announces Dr. Ruth J. Simmons As First Female Interim President
Monday Evening Prairie View A&M University announced that Dr. Ruth J.Simmons will be the first female to serve as interim president as Dr. George Wright, ends his fourteen-year term as President of Prairie View A&M University.
Dr. Ruth J. Simmons previously served as the 18th and first black president of an Ivy League Institution, Brown University, where she served from 2001 -2011. Dr. Simmons was named Woman of the Year in 2002 by Newsweek, as well as Time magazine’s Best College President in 2001. Other accomplishments include; Provost of Spelman College from 1990-1992, Bet 2010 Honor Awards Recipient, 2010 Ellis Island Medal of Honor recipient. She also served as a professor of Romance Languages at Princeton University and served as a Dean at Princeton University from 1983-1990 and is a Honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. The list of accomplishments and awards goes on and on for Dr. Ruth J. Simmons and on behalf of the PVAMU Family, I say, Welcome To The Hill Dr. Ruth J. Simmons !
