Police said that after eighteen days, two hikers were found alive on Wednesday in the New Zealand wilderness. Jessica O’Connor And the Dion Reynolds Wander the Kahurangi National Park on the South Island of New Zealand. They set off on May 9 and were supposed to return in five days. An acquaintance reported that they disappeared for nine days.
Five flight experts, three groups of hunting dogs and two rescue helicopters set out to search for them. Earlier this week, bad weather made things difficult for them. An ambulance helicopter found the couple only on Wednesday afternoon. They were taken to hospital for examination, but they sustained only minor injuries.
Both are 23 years old and hiking. The police say the first signs are that they went missing in the first days of their wanderlust and decided not to move from where they realized it. By the time they were found 18 days after they left, the food had run out.
Kahurangi is the second largest national park in the island country, with an area of 4,520 square kilometers, the size of Vesperm County, and there are no designated hiking trails in some areas. There, some scenes were shot from the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. (MTI)
