In the first round of Polish local elections, the main opposition force, PiS, received the largest number of votes, with 34.3% of the vote, while the Civic Coalition, which leads the government coalition, received the largest number of votes. 30.6 percent of the total votes, according to the results, MTI wrote.
Among other government coalition groups, the Third Way bloc formed by the Polish Peasant Party and Poland 2050 received 14.3 percent, and the New Left received 6.3 percent. The opposition union, which includes small neoliberal and right-wing parties, received 7.2% of the votes. The ruling parties achieved a total of 51.16 percent.
Based on the combined results, out of Poland's 16 provinces, the Labor Party won in 9, and PiS won in 7, although they did not obtain an independent majority in all of them. The formation of local coalitions depends on the number of district councils that the Labor Party will control with other partners in the government coalition, and the number of councils that the Law and Justice Party will control.
The second round will be held on April 21 in those areas where none of the mayoral candidates received more than 50 percent of the votes.
