Some engineering work was also needed to prevent the Danish bridge from being caught by the world’s largest cruise ship.
Royal Caribbean’s 365-metre Icon of the Seas, which promises to be the world’s largest cruise ship, left the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland on December 1, bound for Cádiz, Spain. It will be finalized before moving forward. Her first vacation trip is next year.
During the voyage from Finland to Spain, the ship had to encounter a major obstacle in Denmark: the bridge over the Great Bælt connecting the islands of Sjælland and Fyn.
And in order to put it under it, a trick was needed. Before it got there, its stacks had to be retracted, so that the top of the ship was just a few meters from the bridge.
This procedure is no longer popular with the shipping company, as the Icon, Oasis and Quantum ships all have retractable smokestacks.
Icon of the Seas will depart in late January 2024 on week-long Caribbean cruises to Miami. The cheapest flight starts at $3,023 per person (about one million forints), which is just over $430 (about one hundred and fifty thousand forints) per day.
Royal Caribbean has recently been mass-producing giant ships. Its previous largest cruise ship, Wonder of the Seas, set sail in 2022, and its next large cruise ship, Star of the Seas, will sail in 2025.
The ocean or cruise ship is the pinnacle of luxury; We can sit for a few days while our every desire is monitored. This was the case with Norwegian Cruise Line passengers until they arrived in Spain.
