Indicator – Economy – There was a record high in airport traffic in September as well

The announcement explained that August was the busiest month so far this year, with the airport recording nearly 1.46 million departing and arriving passengers, an increase of 12.3 percent over the same period last year. Thus, total passenger traffic in the summer months will reach 4.27 million in 2023.

Between January and September, 10.981 million passengers visited the capital’s airport, representing a 21.2 percent increase compared to the first nine months of 2022, and only 9.4 percent lower than the figure measured in the record year of 2019.

The beginning of the season was strong in transporting goods

In September, the amount of cargo handled at the airport reached 16,924 tons, which exceeded the figure measured in September 2022 by 11.6 percent, and also achieved the strongest start to the season in the history of air cargo transportation in Budapest, Budapest Airport announced. The company confirmed that this represents an increase of 56 percent compared to the volume of goods registered in September before the opening of the BUD Cargo City. At the same time, the number of cargo flights decreased by 1.8 percent compared to the previous year, due to the operation of freighter aircraft with higher utilization, as well as the transfer of a portion of cargo on the lower deck for passenger flights. .

Expansion of the parking lot, new hotels

The new car park between Terminal 2 and the Ibis Styles Budapest Airport hotel has been in operation since August, increasing capacity by an additional 586 car spaces and 8 tour bus spaces at the bus station. There is also a customer service desk in the new car park, and a covered walkway leading to the airport building, where Terminals 2A and 2B are easily accessible. Budapest Airport indicated that the total value of the investment amounted to 2.4 billion forints (6 million euros).

The announcement also stated that construction of a new hotel in the joint development of WING and Budapest Airport has begun in the immediate vicinity of Budapest Liszt Ferenc Airport, MTI reports. The new 8,000 square meter, 167-room TRIBE hotel is being built next to the Ibis Styles Budapest Airport Hotel, which opened in 2018 and is located within walking distance of the Terminal 2 entrance.
