The model’s launch comes nearly a year after OpenAI’s ChatGPT took the corporate world and private sector around the world by storm and began a wave of adoption of generative AI technology.
Musk co-founded OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, in 2015, but resigned from the company’s board of directors in 2018.

The billionaire said earlier this year that he would launch a truth-seeking artificial intelligence to the hilt that will attempt to understand the nature of the universe to compete with Google’s Bard and Microsoft’s Bing.
The team behind xAI, which launched in July this year, consists of employees from Google DeepMind, the parent company of Windows, and other leading AI research companies. Although Musk owns X, the social media company formerly known as Twitter, and xAI are separate companies, the two companies work closely together.
Larry Ellison, Oracle co-founder and a close friend of Musk, announced in September that xAI had signed a contract to train an AI model running on Oracle’s cloud.
