XIII Remake introduces a new rendering of the PS5 game, in which we can see (and in the case of the latter, hear) a renewed art style, a smoother frame and a renewed sound design.

Critics condemned and A remake of the rather infamous XIII Entered the redemption road, as the entire game will soon be revamped for next generation consoles. Ahead of XIII’s big update on September 13th, publisher Microids has shared a new game trailer for the cel-shaded FPS running on PS5, with some much-needed improvements.

Earlier this year, Microids announced that a new studio, Tower Five, would completely rework XIII, and the owners will receive a free patch later this year.

Since then, Tower Five has been quietly fixing the slew of XIII Remake issues, promising to introduce an improved art style, improved AI, revamped HUD, and improved sound design on September 13th. A new promo released by Microids gives fans a glimpse of what the studio has been working on, showing the XIII in action on next-gen consoles, with all the developments in full view. The gameplay sequence takes place during a SPADS base mission and serves as the best showcase for XIII’s revamped art style, sound design, and new gameplay at 60 frames per second.

The new look of XIII aligns with the comic book aesthetic of the PS2 and the original GameCube, which led to some happy fans in the comments section of the trailer. PlayMagic XIII currently has a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam, but hopefully the free update to Tower Five will fix the game’s rougher edges and live up to the cult original.

Moreover, a Nintendo Switch XIII version is also scheduled for September 13th, which will include all improvements from the PS5 and Xbox versions.

It remains to be seen if the thirteenth version will be successful. The remake of 2020 is likely to be thrown into the public mind as one of the worst releases ever in the eyes of some fans and critics. The game has done so poorly that the original XIII version at one point sold more than the recently released new version! However, Microids deserves some credit for not abandoning the project, even two years later, when many other publishers would have easily left the XIII in the rearview mirror. With any luck, XIII Remake will begin on September 13th, and new fans will be able to discover why so many players are still holding the franchise so highly even after 20 years.
