Several sources in unison claim that a fire destroyed the unique Russian icebreaker Katerina Velika. According to information, the vehicle was docked at the shipyard port in Dalzavod when the necessary repair work was carried out on it. The fire broke out at 3 a.m. and was extinguished just six hours later. According to the local prosecutor's office, one person died and three others were injured in the fire.
Law enforcement officials are currently investigating and trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident
– Local authorities reported. They did not reveal the extent of the damage to the car or how long it would take to repair it.
The loss of Katarina Velikaya could affect Russia very sensitively, as the vehicle is unique in the whole world, being the only Class 7 icebreaker.
This means that it is able to adapt to extremely harsh Arctic conditions, and can handle ice armor up to 2.5 meters thick. It can perform various tasks, such as transporting goods in harsh conditions, escorting other ships, and monitoring the thickness of the ice cover in the region.
