In the past, Google has published a monthly distribution of all Android versions, but the numbers were never impressive, as there are many phone manufacturers, and they did not necessarily try to issue updates. The situation has changed since then that we no longer get regular statistics from the research giant, but now new (relatively) data has appeared.
For our great surprise, Google recently published how all Android releases are, although it should be noted that the data was collected on April 1, and since then Samsung launched Android 15 updates, after a long wait.
Below is the share of all spending, that is, the percentage of active Android devices that run the specified version:
- Android 15.0 (V): 4.5 %
- Android 14.0 (U): 27.4 %
- Android 13.0 (T): 16.8 %
- Android 12.0 (S): 13.8 %
- Android 11.0 (R): 15.9 %
- Android 10.0 (S): 10.2 %
- Android 9.0 (PIE): 5.8 %
- Android 8.1 (Oreo): 3.0 %
- Android 8.0 (Oreo): 1.0 %
- Android 7.1 (Nougat): 0.6 %
- Android 7.0 (Nougat): 0.6 %
- Android 6.0 (Marshmallow): 0.7 %
- Android 5.1 (Lollipop): 0.5 %
- Android 5.0 (Lollipop): 0.1 %
- Android 4.4 (Kitkat): 0.1 %
The most common version is undoubtedly Android 14, which works in more than a quarter of phones. Through this version, Samsung has advanced well, which is currently working on most of the devices of the South Korean manufacturer, which aims a lot on the results. In the second place is Android 13, the third is Android 11, with 12 and 10 versions. These are higher than 10 %, and the old systems are already on the transfer and less.
Android 15 operated only 4.5 % of devices, which is very few compared to the fact that Google released the system in September last year. As Samsung advances with updates, this number will increase, but we cannot expect a lot in the near future, especially since Android 16 will arrive soon.
